Improving Lives of Youth Through Sport

Scholarships & Grants

The Indiana Soccer Foundation supports programs throughout Indiana. The common thread in all of these programs is that they intentionally develop values in youth through soccer. This support has two forms – grants and scholarships.

Rachael Fiege Memorial Outreach Fund

In 2014, the Board of Directors established the Rachael Fiege Memorial Outreach Fund. The fund is named in honor of Rachael Fiege, a young lady who embodied all the values that the Foundation stands for, and who passed away long before her time. For more information on Rachael, click here. The Rachael Fiege Memorial Outreach Fund is the repository of all ISF fundraising efforts, and is used to fund ISF grants.

The Indiana Soccer Foundation awards grants 1-2x per year. These grants support programs and activities that promote the mission of the Indiana Soccer Foundation – to build values in youth through soccer. Any organization doing a soccer program that intentionally focusses on the development of values is welcome to apply for a grant, including but not limited to Indiana Soccer Association soccer clubs. In the past, not only have ISA clubs been awarded grants, but also non ISA organizations such as YMCA’s and Boy’s & Girl’s Clubs. Again, the critical component of any program being funded is the intentionality of values development in the program participants.

The grant cycle occurs one or two times per year. The Fall 2016 grant applications were due October 15, and the next cycle information is being developed now. For more information, contact Jeff Newnam at jeffn@indianasoccerfoundation.com.

Boys & Girls Soccer Scholarships

The Indiana Soccer Foundation is pleased to offer a scholarship program for male & female soccer athletes who are in need of financial assistance in order to play in the Indiana State League (ISL) and the Midwest Regional League (MRL). Each scholarship request will be considered on a per season basis for coaching, club base fees, field usage or field equipment fees, officials or referee fees, league fees and other fees deemed acceptable.  Fees for coach travel expenses, uniform expenses, player/family travel expenses, tournament fees, camp or clinic fees will not be considered in determining awards. The maximum possible award per season per player is $200; lesser amounts may be awarded.

Beginning with the July 31, 2017 application the scholarship period will be for an entire school year (e.g., Fall 2017 – Spring 2018). Also the scholarships, which are submitted by the club on behalf of the athletes and paid directly to the club, will be linked to the club’s values programming.

By “values programming” we mean intentionally including core values of the clubs choosing (such as honesty, caring, respect and responsibility) in their programs. Here are several examples:

The Indiana Soccer Foundation is happy to offer a grant of up to $500 to clubs in order to help them initiate this programming, as well as other support. For more information, call or email Jeff Newnam at (317)919-5132/jeffn@indianasoccerfoundation.com.

Applications for scholarships must be submitted by clubs on behalf of individuals. The deadline for applications for the Fall 2017 – Spring 2018 season is August 9, 2017. If you have any questions about these scholarships, please contact Jim Heck (jim@thehecks.com) or Mary Runnells (mrun47@att.net).
